On March 20, 2026, the Advanced Training Course on Transcatheter Tricuspid Regurgitation Therapy, a series of standardized training programs of the Interventional Center for Heart Valve Diseases (Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University Session), was successfully held. Focusing on transcatheter interventional therapy for tricuspid regurgitation—a hot and challenging clinical issue—the training course brought together experts, scholars and clinicians in the field of cardiovascular medicine from across China to exchange cutting-edge technologies, share practical experience and discuss diagnosis and treatment standards.

As a common valvular heart disease, tricuspid regurgitation has certain limitations in traditional treatment approaches. Benefiting from its advantages such as minimal invasiveness, safety and rapid recovery, transcatheter interventional therapy has become an important developmental direction. This advanced course delivered systematic teaching on core contents including tricuspid valve anatomy, imaging evaluation, surgical strategy selection, key intraoperative techniques, and complication prevention and control. Integrating case analysis, surgical video review and hands-on simulation, the program achieved an in-depth combination of theory and practice.

The teaching team from Fudan University Zhongshan Hospital drew on the hospital's extensive clinical experience to explain the technical essentials and advanced skills of tricuspid valve intervention in a straightforward and accessible manner, providing targeted guidance and answering questions for participating trainees. Attending physicians engaged actively in discussions and interactions. Through professional learning and the exchange of ideas, they further enhanced their capabilities in the interventional diagnosis and treatment of tricuspid regurgitation, helping to promote the standardized and uniform treatment of tricuspid valve diseases.

Opening Address: Charting the Course, Embarking on the Journey of Advancement

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Daxin Zhou from Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University delivered the opening address. He pointed out that as a common valvular heart disease, tricuspid regurgitation has long been known as the "forgotten valve" due to its diagnostic and therapeutic complexity. With breakthroughs in transcatheter interventional technologies, its treatment landscape is undergoing profound changes. This advanced course aims to integrate multidisciplinary strengths in clinical practice, devices, echocardiography and other fields, systematically improve clinicians' knowledge and practical capabilities in managing tricuspid regurgitation, and bring hope of minimally invasive treatment to more patients with severe conditions.

Deepening Theoretical Foundations, Mastering the Core of Diagnosis and Treatment

Professor Daxin Zhou delivered a lecture entitled “Tricuspid Regurgitation: Disease Overview and Treatment Advances”, systematically reviewing the pathophysiological mechanisms, epidemiological characteristics, and the evolution of treatment technologies at home and abroad. He emphasized that early identification and intervention of tricuspid regurgitation are crucial to improving patient prognosis, and transcatheter interventional therapy has become an important option for patients who cannot tolerate surgical treatment.

Professor Wenzhi Pan delivered a presentation on “Treatment Timing in Patients with Tricuspid Regurgitation and Interpretation of the Latest Guidelines”. Drawing on the latest domestic and international guidelines and consensus, he conducted an in-depth analysis of intervention indications, risk assessment, and individualized treatment strategies for patients with varying severity of tricuspid regurgitation, providing clear guidance for clinicians to determine the optimal treatment window and standardize clinical decision-making.

Professor Xiaochun Zhang delivered a keynote lecture entitled “How to Select Patients Suitable for Transcatheter Tricuspid Annuloplasty”. From the perspectives of anatomical characteristics, regurgitation mechanisms, functional status and comorbidities, he systematically analyzed the ideal candidate population for tricuspid annuloplasty, and intuitively demonstrated its clinical advantages with typical cases.

Subsequently, the Fudan Zhongshan Cardiac Team delivered the first LIVE surgical demonstration of the day, fully presenting the entire procedural workflow of transcatheter tricuspid annuloplasty. From preoperative patient evaluation and the surgical procedure to immediate postoperative outcome verification, team experts provided synchronized real-time commentary, clearly breaking down each operational step. This allowed attending physicians to immerse themselves in the precision and standardization of high-level interventional surgery.

Precise Assessment, Laying a Solid Foundation for Diagnosis and Treatment

Professor Dehong Kong delivered a presentation entitled “Key Points and Grading of Echocardiographic Diagnosis in Transcatheter Tricuspid Regurgitation Treatment”. He elaborated on the echocardiographic evaluation dimensions, quantitative methods and grading criteria for tricuspid regurgitation, emphasizing the core role of echocardiography in preoperative screening, intraoperative monitoring and postoperative follow-up.

Professor Wei Li further shared his insights on “Standardized Ultrasound Workflow for Transcatheter Tricuspid Regurgitation Therapy: Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative Stages”. From preoperative anatomical evaluation and intraoperative guidance and monitoring to postoperative efficacy assessment, he established a complete standardized system for ultrasound operation, providing precise imaging support for the safe performance of interventional procedures.

Immediately afterwards, the Fudan Zhongshan Cardiac Team delivered the second LIVE surgical demonstration. Jointly with a multidisciplinary team including ultrasound, interventional cardiology and anesthesiology, they fully presented the entire interventional treatment process for a patient with complex tricuspid regurgitation, intuitively demonstrating the important value of multidisciplinary collaboration in valvular interventional diagnosis and treatment.

Lastly, Professor Yuan Zhang shared his insights on “Perioperative Patient Management in Transcatheter Tricuspid Regurgitation Therapy”, covering key points of the full-cycle management including preoperative preparation, intraoperative monitoring, postoperative rehabilitation and complication management.

Unite Consensus and Forge Ahead

Following the theoretical lectures and live surgical demonstrations, under the chairmanship of Professor Ran Guo, all attending physicians participated in the hands-on training session for the K-Clip® device. Through immersive simulated operations, the participants fully mastered the procedural workflow of transcatheter tricuspid annuloplasty, including device delivery, positioning and clamping, as well as release steps. They directly experienced the handling feel and precise control logic of the K-Clip® system, laying a solid practical foundation for its subsequent clinical application.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Professor Daxin Zhou delivered a summing-up speech. He congratulated the complete success of the training course and expressed his gratitude to all speakers, moderators and staff for their hard work. He pointed out that this advanced course had achieved an in-depth integration of theory and practice, effectively improving the clinical practical capabilities of participating physicians. In the future, such academic exchange platforms will continue to be established to advance transcatheter tricuspid regurgitation treatment technologies in China to a higher level and bring benefits to more patients.

The successful holding of this advanced training course on transcatheter tricuspid regurgitation treatment not only highlights the leading position of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University in the field of valvular intervention, but also injects strong impetus into the standardized and homogeneous development of tricuspid regurgitation diagnosis and treatment in China, contributing to the continued advancement of structural heart disease care in the country.
